2021 FWM Mar Menor - Information

The 2021 Finn World Masters has been rescheduled to take place in the town of Los Alcazares from 8-15 October. The Notice of Race will be published shortly with online entry open soon. The name of the venue is 'CTD Infanta Cristina' at Los Alcazares, the same place where the Masters was run in 2007. Further information will be published on finnworldmaster.com shortly.

Average wind/weather for time of year

The event will take place from the 8th untill 15th of October, which is one of the best months to enjoy Mar Menor sailing conditions. Summer has ended, but air and water are still warm and termal wind appears daily with an average speed of 10-15 knots. Northeast and southwest are the predominant winds. The coast is clear and no mountains disturb the wind.

Mar Menor has tipical lake choppy waves, short and not too high, enough to slide over them.

During 2007 FWM, all the sailing program was completed.

The Mar Menor is one of Spain's most appreciated race courses. Thank to its warm, shallow waters and its mild temperatures, one can enjoy the sunshine and nautical sports 365 days a year.

The lagoon is separated from the Mediterranean Sea by La Manga (“the sleeve”, in Spanish), a sandbar 22 km in length whose width ranges from 100 to 1,200 metres.

Lots of national and international championships have taken place in Mar Menor, and also the AC teams chose it as the best training camp. America’s Cup challenger Ineos Team UK sought refuge this winter from their British base in Portsmouth, in the coastal saltwater lagoon of Mar Menor, Spain. Video published on May 3, 2019:

Close to Mar Menor, Cartagena (30km) is well known for its history and archeological heritage. You can also find lots of places around Mar Menor with tourist interest.

The 2007 FWM was organized in Mar Menor. 137 finns sailed 7 races with wind between 8 aand 15knots.
