Update on the 2020 Finn World Masters - Feb 2020

Jan Zetzema writes: As the number of entries for the FWM 2020 approach 200 we as the Dutch Masters Committee are working daily to fine tune the programme of the 50th anniversary of our Finn Masters, which will be celebrated during our Finn Master Worlds 2020. We expect 300 - 400 Finn sailors at Grevelingenmeer / Marina Port Zélande.

Accommodation: if you have not booked yet, there are still some apartments available at Centre Parcs. See: https://www.fwm2020.com/accomodation/

Races: All races will be sailed on race area B and C as shown on the map. Race area A and D cannot be used during the FWM. The format of the races might therefore have to be adjusted, depending on the number of participants and the wind conditions.

Our PRO, Alex Hoeve, has put an additional format in when we hit 400 participants, to make sure that fair races can be sailed by everyone. He can choose to sail inner/outer-loop or upwind/downwind and it might even be possible that we sail in two starting groups: the morning group (start around 10:30) and the afternoon group (start around 13:30).

We will be using the randomised starting group system that was trialled in Denmark last year. While it is a randomised system and there are no guarantees it is designed to produce fair racing. However there could be some sailors who never meet each other, and some who stay in the same group all week. The chances are low of course, but it is randomly possible.

Our PRO will decide day by day which race format will be used. A spreader mark will be at all top marks and at the downwind marks will always be a gate. He will do everything he can to ensure fair racing.

CURRENT ENTRY STANDS AT 199
EARLY ENTRY CLOSES ON APRIL 15
PLEASE ENTER HERE TO BE PART OF THE BIGGEST FINN EVENT OF THE YEAR

Boats ashore: On the quay the Finns will be sorted by country: so all S, M, GM, GGM and L/SL mixed.

Boat park: Upon arrival, the boat park is car free. There is a big guarded trailer parking next to the quay.

Volunteers: We have a lot of volunteers during the whole event, but getting the Finns in the water at the five ramps still needs friendship and helping each other.

Partner program: On Sunday at 14:00 there is a ‘meet and greet’ for the partners. During this meeting, drinks will be offered and all will have the opportunity to sign on for several programmes. During the whole week restaurants both at the marina and at the beach will be happy to welcome you.

Super Prize & lottery: Every competitor’s sail number will be entered into a lottery number for the FWM Super lottery on Thursday: with your sail number you have the opportunity to win a brand-new Finn, which has been kindly sponsored by Devoti Sailing and Dinghy Racing Centre.

Also an extra opportunity to win this Finn will be given: you can buy an extra ticket for the lottery when signing in at registration at Marina Port Zélande.
